Unit Overview: All My Stripes
Theme: Celebrating our “unique stripes” and understanding that we are made of many different parts, not just one.
1. Vocabulary Building
Focus on these “Feeling” and “Trait” words.
• Unique: Being the only one of its kind.
• Stripe: A long narrow band (Zane’s different traits).
• Frustrated: Feeling annoyed or upset because you cannot change something.
• Special: Better, greater, or otherwise different from what is usual.
• Perspective: A particular way of considering something.
2. Comprehension Questions:
Designed for toddlers and K students to encourage social-emotional engagement.
• Observation: Why does Zane feel different from the other painted horses?.
• Identification: Can you find Zane’s “autism stripe”? What about his “caring stripe”?
• Recall: How does Zane’s Mama help him feel better when he is frustrated?
• Connection: Zane has a “honesty stripe”. What is a ”stripe” (or something good) about you?
