WE'RE ALL WONDERS CRAFT SET

WE’RE ALL WONDERS

by R.J. Palacio Unit Overview: We’re All Wonders

Theme: Inclusion, Empathy, and the Beauty of Difference.

Focus: This unit follows Auggie, a boy who looks different from other children. It focuses on the “look” vs. the “heart.” It teaches children that while we can’t change how we look, we can change how we see. It’s a powerful tool for building a classroom culture where every student feels like they belong.

Key Teaching Points

• Defining a “Wonder”; Teaching children that a ‘wonder is something amazing, unique, and special. Every child is a wonder

• Choosing Kindness: Moving beyond just “being nice” to actively choosing to include others who might be playing alone or look different.

• The “Space Helmet” Imagination: Discussing how Auggie uses his imagination (his space helmet) when things feel hard. This is a great connection to coping skills.

• Perspective (Changing the Lens): Understanding that if we “look with our hearts,” the world looks different than if we just look with our eyes.
