THE DAY THE CRAYONS QUIT
by Drew Daywalt
Section 1: Unit Overview & Core Theme
• Theme: Colorful Feelings: Understanding Perspective & Communication
• Focus: When Duncan’s crayons go on strike because they are tired of their usual jobs, Duncan must read their letters to understand why they are unhappy. This unit focuses on the logic of perspective and emotional cause-and-effect . Little learners discover that different voices (even from crayons!) have unique feelings, and that listening closely helps solve problems so everyone can feel heard and valued.
